Our main priority is helping clients make great architecture that serves their needs and responds in a vital way to its context and cultural surroundings. In order to do this and to further the studios own knowledge base we invest in a wide programme of research which enables us to be inventive and to find new and sometimes unexpected solutions to the problems that we are posed.
We work in collaboration with like-minded consultants in order to further our thinking and skill level and since our inception, we have always looked to develope concepts grounded by good research that have a light touch on the planet, are low in carbon and energy-use. We look to our research to help us and our clients mitigate the impact of climate change.
Tooting Bec Lido
Following WR-AP’s winning competition entry in May 2022, the South London Swimming Club has appointed WR-AP to work collaboratively with them to redevelop a new public entrance swimming and changing facility at Tooting Bec Lido in South West London. A beach within the city, its brightly coloured changing facilities are reminiscent of the English seaside and it has been a haven for local people since 1906.
The proposals form part of a wider masterplan for the historic site that began five years ago with the opening of a new pavilion building (2017) and current plans to re-line the swimming pool, alongside the creation of a new pump house and efficient filtration system. WR-AP’s competition winning entry seeks to create a net zero carbon facility that will incorporate sustainable measures including GSHP, solar panels, a grey water system for toilets and the potential to harness heat from the one-million-gallon filtration system to boost water temperature for showers.
